08/27/2002 Entry: "Save Eastenders and get a nice legal bill in the process"

Proving that their cluelessness with regard to their American audience is not limited to World Service radio, BBC America television has sparked off a protest by moving the venerable Eastenders program from the Sunday airing it's had since BBC America started to a time on Friday when most of its audience is still at work. Angry fans started a website (gee, that seems like a good idea), but this time, BBC has pulled out the big guns and threatened the owners with legal action, proving that the best response to a little bit of love is an injury added to insult. The owners of the site have moved their campaign to another domain until things are resolved. Meanwhile, BBC America is deleting posts on their own discussion forum. When it was pointed out to them that their terms of service didn't forbid the deleted discussions, they changed the terms of service. Seems like someone's really got their knickers in a twist.

I am writing from New Zealand where TVOne has suddenly axed Eastenders completely with only one weeks notice - disgraceful! A fantastic show I have been following for 18years (originally in UK and recently since emigrating to NZ). If anyone is considering opening a protest website for the letdown NZ viewers, please do so urgently - much needed!!!! Why should we pay for Sky TV for decent viewing!! They are still continuing to screen "Days of our Lives" for god's sake!!!!!! HELLO??????

I am also very angry. The programs on BBC America used to be fun. One by one they took them off but I just said to myself that as long as ee was on I could live with it. Well, they will have to live without me because I will never watch their channel again unless they put ee back on. I will not buy anything from their sponsors or visit their pathetic web site. Ground Force, Changing Rooms, What Not to Wear!!! No appeal at all. Any of them. I'm an American not a fool. We pay for their programing and we should get what we want. Give us back our show BBC! And you better start where you left off!!! Phil in the pub, a newly married man, and Lisa walking into the Vic.

I feel that BBC America is no longer worth watching without Eastenders. Their attention is truly only to showing re-runs of home improvement shows. Disgusting! They had one unique show and cancelled it. What losers! I don't know where to sign any petitions however. I did call my dish satellite rep. and tell him to report my complaint of not having access to my favorite show.

It is amazing that BBCA believes it can justify the abrupt termination of EastEnders broadcasting in the US. EastEnders is a highly awarded program with a loyal viewer following. EastEnder fans are not going to cease protesting the cancellation unless/until EastEnders returns to the airwaves. A group formed at saveeastenders.com is bound and determined to continue fighting for the return of EastEnders. Like the soap itself, we won't give up until EE returns from the dead like so many of our favorite characters (i.e. Den & Lisa).

As a 11 year watcher of EastEnders I am saddened to lose my absolute favorate program in the whole wide world. I hope that some channel somewhere will begin to broadcast EastEnders in the United States very soon. Thank you.

I really cannot believe that Eastenders is being taken off of the air in America! I hope that losing viewers will send BBC America executives a message that we do not appreciate their insensitivity. The channel has really become worthless now with the schedule full of endless repeats of the same shows. All loyal EE fans need to band together and unite in our boycott of BBC America over this decision!

It is very SAD that the BBC America no longer has the EastEnders in their television schedule. I have watched this program for 11 years and my parents have been LOYAL E.E. viewers for the past 15 years. Mom and Dad would not take phone calls when their "SHOW" was on. First the PBS station discontinued EastEnders and now BBC America. My parents have discontinued their digital cable(the only way to view the BBC programs) because the EastEnders are no longer on the air.

It is with regret to inform BBCA that I have cancelled their programming following the high handed action by David Bernath to cancel the only good show they aired. The constant repeats of changing rooms, ground foce, graham norton go on ad nauseum. Digital TV costs a lot, but it is worth it for Eastenders, there are obviously over 10,000 people who agree, check out the petition. Thanks

I'm not usually petty about these sort of programming decisions - I've watched many a show come and go in my lifetime. However, I am saddened and disappointed in how BBCA is treating their viewers. When I posted my disdain for their decision to cancel Eastenders, my post was promptly deleted. I am, therefore, banning BBCA from my home and am boycotting any sponsors who advertise on BBCA. Remember - it's the viewers that sign their paychecks -- it's time they started remembering that. Regards, The Gardners

bbcamerica.us is an obvious violation of bbcamerica.com. Usually I side with the defense in these domain disputes, but this one is pretty cut and dry. 'bbcamerica' is in no way generic. If it was 'bbcamericasucks', that would be different as its obviously not the site of BBC America.
